Deryl McKissack
Deryl McKissack is founder, chairwoman, and CEO of McKissack & McKissack, a firm that currently manages over $15 billion in projects nationwide. Keynote host Roman Mars will interview Deryl, with leaders of other breakout firms, about firm resilience and the future of architecture.
Under Deryl’s leadership, McKissack & McKissack has worked for public and private clients in the civic, culture, energy, education, entertainment, health care, hospitality, housing, infrastructure, housing, mixed-use and office sectors, growing to 150+ employees with offices in Austin, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami and Washington, D.C. As a licensed professional engineer and certified project management professional, Deryl is the fifth generation of her family to work in the design and construction field. McKissack & McKissack is a continuation of the nation’s oldest African American design and construction firm and traces its beginnings to Moses McKissack, a master builder who was also a slave. Deryl started McKissack & McKissack in 1990, with a shoestring budget of $1,000 and a business plan she wrote herself. Today, Engineering News Record magazine ranks the firm in two of its most significant national lists. The Washington Business Journal also named it one of the top 25 design firms in the metropolitan Washington area. The firm has managed landmark projects that include the Museum of African American History and Culture, the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, the Obama Presidential Center and the Navy Pier Centennial Projects in Chicago.
